The Legacy of Our Superhero: Chadwick Boseman

Like most of us, the news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing has sent waves around the world and brought sorrow into our hearts because it’s another blow in our community to an already challenging year. Often we think of celebrities as being immortal and never having to fight the same battles as us in their everyday lives. However, this year along has proved the point that all people go through the good and bad times no matter who they are.

If you are a Marvel and Historian craving viewer like myself, losing Chadwick Boseman brought about disbelief and sadness but it also gave me a better appreciation of the work that he has done over the past few years. Chadwick’s talent was exuberant when portraying Jackie Robinson Jr., James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and lastly Black Panther. Literally every movie that he starred in was a positive message to the black community.

Flipping through archives of Chadwick’s interviews and speeches proved that he embodied resilience and perfection in every thing that he did with his life. It’s amazing to see how his illness did not make him feel sorry for himself but helped fueled him to accomplish the goals that he had set out and to do so with great humility. One of the many inspiring speeches that comes to mind was his Howard Commencement Speech were he eloquently said “When you are deciding on next steps, next jobs, next careers, you should rather find purpose than a job or a career. Purpose crosses disciplines. Purpose is an essential element of you. It is the reason you are on the planet.”

It is more prevalent now to understand that Chadwick knew his purpose. He knew what he was called to do despite the short time that he was given. Chadwick lived every day with purpose and meaning and kept a smile on his face regardless of the internal pain that he was going through. Chadwick Boseman is and will always be OUR SUPERHERO!

We love and miss you! Rest peacefully KING!
