Black Entrepreneurs Buy Entire Blocks in Fifth Ward

Houston native, Chris Senegal, believed in creating a different reality for him outside of the corporate engineering job that was consuming his life with long miserable hours. He shifted his focus over the next few years on reading and learning about real estate investing.

Over the course of the early 2010s, he was able to flip his first house and decided to further his ambition by conducting several meetings and ultimately reaching an agreement with a seller to purchase an entire block of Fifth ward for $400,000. Though he did not have the financial capability of paying in lump sum, he worked to provide monthly payments to the seller.

With this next step in ownership, Chris used the properties to house low income black families and felons who were not able to find housing. Once other black investors and entrepreneurs got whiff of his success, they decided to team together to continue efforts in renovating abandoned buildings and turning them into new homes and businesses for the people in our community. To this date, he entire block has now been sold and the team plans to continue the mission and bring black-owned business into the neighborhoods and motivate more people to put money back into our community.
