Chezie - The New Online Job Review Site for Minorities

Often when young black professionals are looking for jobs the first of many questions that comes to mind is, “How diverse is the company?” When submitting applications, applicants of color often are hesitant to answer the EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) section because deep in their minds they know that the probability of getting the job will drastically decrease. Throughout the whole job process there are many underlining factors that continue to impact young black professionals.

The co-founders of Chezie, Toby and Dumebi Egbuna, are a pair of siblings who have experienced these same limitations within their job search upon college graduation and knew other resources other than those of Glassdoor, Indeed, etc. were needed for their community. Dumebi is an Emory University graduate with a degree in Business Administration, Marketing & Strategic Consulting. Toby is an UNC Chapel Hill graduate with a degree in Business Administration. The brother-sister duo has worked tirelessly to develop a platform that seeks to offer full transparency into the experiences of people of color at workplaces.

The Chezie website is a platform that gives young black professionals an opportunity to research and read job reviews from current and/or past diverse employees at the companies of interest. It also allows for diverse students and professionals to connect with inclusive employers. The platform not only provides insight on company workspaces but it reveals constructive feedback and specific examples about work experiences within the companies. Chezie is often referred to as the “Glassdoor for minorities” as stated by Blavity News. Chezie currently has 1400 registered members and provides over 1400 stories for many companies across the country that can be beneficial to young black professionals who are actively looking for new opportunities.

Although Chezie officially launched last year, it is poised to gain more attention as the economy continues to grow more job opportunities opening up during the post-pandemic wave.
