Your Vote Matters!
The 2020 United States Presidential Election is in 7 days! I repeat, 7 days! This election is more significant now as it will either lead to a continued effort in a dictator-like shift or it can be regained back to serve us, the people. As each day gears closer to election day, there is a continued push to draw awareness to systemic issues involving minorities, climate change, Roe vs. Wade, healthcare, and other crucial factors that are significant in voicing our rights through voting.
This is why your vote matters now, not later. In the 2016 presidential election, the black voter turnout rate declined to 59.6% which was the largest percentage-point decline among any racial or ethnic group since 1992. The youth vote (aged 18-29) casted 19% of all votes in the 2016 presidential election mainly siding with the democratic party.
With the recent coverages of racial injustices over the past 6 months alone, it has fueled many black voters to get to the polls and vote for change. In the recent news, Black Americans continue to vote in historical numbers by early voting through mail-in ballots or in-person. This election is an urge to stand together and fight against the heightened impact of the “Make America Great Again” mindset that has been more outwardly exposed than ever since Trump took office 4 years ago.
If you have not voted yet, please take the time to go out and vote. Your vote not only impacts you but it impacts the future generations to come.
