Thank You Virgil Abloh.

Back in 2018, Virgil Abloh made history as Louis Vuitton’s new men’s artistic director. He became the first African-American fashion designer and just one of three Black designers to ever lead a major French fashion house. He learned most of his talents from his Ghananian mother who was a seamstress and taught him the ins and outs of her trade.

Virgil’s journey into the fashion world started off with working under high fashion brands and eventually teaming with Kanye West and other friends. Years later he would launch Pyrex Vision and Off-White. Off-White has become widely recognized for years as a high profile brand that combines his ideas of streetwear, luxury, art, music, and travel. Virgil’s impacts stormed the fashion world and also brought light to his heritage. One of his last shows in Tokyo, he showcased heavy Ghanaian influences tied from his own life and pride in who he is.

News of his passing on Sunday, Nov 28th, was a hard hit to the community. It’s very disheartening to see people deal with health problems in private while trying to maintain everything else. It’s a true testament that life is fragile. Virgil was a pillar to the black community and an inspiration to future upcoming creatives. His works and influence will be spoken of in the same league as Warhol, Basquiat and Haring. Virgil was a true Visionary and the work that he leaves behind will continue to evolve fashion and design forever.

Thank you Virgil! You will be missed.
